Last night, Charlize kissed a girl. A woman really, from the look of things. Hard to tell with their faces smashed together like that, isn't it? The kiss -- and the $140,000 that paid for it -- was part of a charity event supporting OneXOne, an organization committed to helping children in developing regions. You may remember OneXOne from the recent "Entourage" season finale, in which Matt Damon, as himself, hassled movie star Vinnie Chase (Adrian Grenier) to get involved.

Theron was initially on stage to auction off a trip to Africa, complete with a Nelson Mandela meet-and-greet, Us Magazine reports. The bidding topped out at $37,000, so the the actress sweetened the deal by offering up a 7-second kiss to a man for $130,000. One lucky lady upped that ante to 20 seconds for $140,000, and she took the prize. Hit the jump to get a look at the big picture.

Lots of arrows flying in this clip, an exclusive from John Woo's "Red Cliff." Maybe not as many as there were in the 2002 Jet Li flick "Hero," but I would argue that they're used to better effect here. In this action-packed scene, our heroes storm a fortification under fire from flaming arrows and catapult projectiles. If you enjoy epic-scale warfare, you will enjoy this clip.

The best place to really absorb the scale of something like "Red Cliff" is in theaters, which you can do starting November 18. For those who absolutely can't wait, you can also check out the movie via Video OnDemand services, Amazon and Xbox Live starting today, October 22. So get on it.

This week, fans get to celebrate almost a century of "The Wizard of Oz" with a 70th Anniversary DVD/Blu-ray release of the 1939 film. It's fitting then that we have some exclusive new information to share with you on the screen adaptation of Todd McFarlane's "The Twisted Land of Oz" toy line.

MTV Splash Page editor Rick Marshall spoke to the man himself recently, and he was more than happy to delve into the project's genesis, some basic story elements and what the future holds. There's new stuff in here, things you haven't heard yet. The short version: this ain't your granddaddy's "Wizard of Oz." "Spawn" creator McFarlane has some dark ideas kicking around in his head, and they mesh very well with the inherently creepy qualities of "Oz."

Just coming to the point we're at today has been quite a ride for McFarlane. The "Twisted" line of toys performed well enough that McFarlane received a call from "Hollywood" asking if there was a story to go along with the action figures. There wasn't one at that moment, though he had a pitch prepped in the space of a week. Warner Bros. bit and Michael Bay was attached... but only until "Transformers" stole him away. And we all know how that turned out.

More recently, "A History of Violence" writer Josh Olsen stepped up to pen a script. McFarlane's chief concern is delivering an Oz that is darker than what people know. As he told execs during pitch meetings, "Number one: you have to turn off the switch to the [1939] MGM movie. If you don't turn off that switch, almost everything I'm about to say will not make sense to you."

See, what makes a man like Todd McFarlane so successful is an understanding of his audience. He's not out to bring "Oz" author L. Frank Baum's words and world to the silver screen; he simply wants to be inspired by it. "Basically," McFarlane reasoned, "what do I have to do to sell a 22 year old kid going to college [to come] see something called 'Oz'?"

"There's a lot of wink wink, nudge nudge stuff, so ['Twisted Land' isn't] completely devoid of what we've come to know," McFarlane said. It may not sound like it based on the story's setup, but the parallels are there.

"In mine, [Dorothy is] up in the Antarctic, and there's bad weather," McFarlane said. "The point is that when you're in bad weather in a s--tty place up north, it is completely gray. That would be our 'black & white [sequence].' Then she falls into her Shangri-La, called Oz, where suddenly everything's in color."

As anyone who knows the toy line is already aware, familiar characters aren't left out. They look a bit different, but all are present and accounted for. The biggest of the changes, in more ways than one, is to Dorothy's lovable dog.

"There's still a thing called Toto, except its the biggest thing in the movie and not the smallest thing. [The beast called Toto] basically ate the first dog, and it's this big thing that [the inhabitants of Oz] ride. They've given this generic word... so instead of horses, [people] ride Totos."

Unfortunately, Olsen's script did not deliver in the way that McFarlane had hoped. "Josh came in and I read the first draft. I told [Olsen] I was curious about how we went from what I pitched to what I called 'Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.'" Hollywood apparently agreed.

"My understanding is that [the studio] thought we went a little too conservative, so somebody else is taking a crack at [the script] now. We're never going to get as crazy as I wanted, so I have to accept that. My pitch is fairly radical, if you will. If you're 22 years old, it's not radical. If you're an executive, it's radical."

For any changes being made to his original idea, McFarlane isn't terribly troubled. "I think there will be a compromise," he said. "I've told [the studio] that it's okay, I understand the business side." Which isn't to say that he's totally on board.

"I just found it odd that they bought that cool, creepy ['Twisted Land of Oz' pitch] and now they're taking a step back." Not a big one, mind you. Remember, the Olsen treatment is still out.

"I think the first script was just a little soft for them," McFarlane explained. "I've always been a believer that the reason remakes don't work is that they stay too true to the source material. Hopefully we'll have a new script in the next month or two, and then we'll be a lot closer to seeing whether it will grab some true momentum or whether we're heading into development hell here."

Time will tell. I'm certainly hoping that momentum gears up on this project soon, as the land of Oz is ripe for the "darker" treatment that McFarlane's envisioned.

I have an unbelievably high tolerance for action. The fight scene from "They Live" ranks among my all-time favorites. This clip from "Ong Bak 2" is considerably better than that. You can check out the movie now on Xbox Live, Amazon or VOD, or you can head out to see it in theaters on October 23.

In the first "Ong Bak," Tony Jaa plays a Muay Thai (Thai boxing) warrior in a contemporary setting. He kicks ass and takes relatively few names as he searches the seedy underbelly of Bangkok for a stolen statue. The Jaa-directed-and-starring sequel winds back the clock to feudal Thailand, 1421 by our calendar. Jaa plays Tien, a young man who grows into the greatest martial artist in the land after he is rescued from slave traders by the leader of a warrior tribe. Check out the clip below to see a display of Tien's skills.

This weekend, my people will gather will their families to celebrate the high holy holiday of Rosh Hashana, the Jewish New Year. Following the weekend festivities, Jews enter into a week of repentence, concluding with a day of fasting on Yom Kippur.

Technically, you're not supposed to be watching TV during Rosh Hashana, a certified "day of rest." I was raised in a reformed household though, so we play by a looser set of rules than more observant practitioners. Togetherness in my own family is usually punctuated by a movie or two. And since the Coen brothers' intensely Jewish "A Serious Man" doesn't hit theaters for a few more weeks, we've got to make do with what's watchable at home. Here are a few suggestions to bring along for your own gatherings...

Editor's note: Follow this link if you're having trouble deciphering the Yinglish.

"Fiddler on the Roof"
Nothing makes a Jewish parent kvell more than when their son or daughter shows an interest in Norman Jewison's adaptation of the classic musical "Fiddler on the Roof." The music leans heavily on minor keys, the performers speak in thick accents and the story is all about promoting looser interpretations of religious dogma according to the demands of changing times. Want to see your Jewish parents smile this weekend? Show up with a copy of "Fiddler on the Roof" in hand.

"Schindler's List"
It's not terribly uplifting -- not until the very end, at least -- but director Steven Spielberg tapped straight into the pulse of Jewish culture with his World War II-set story of history's favorite goy, Oskar Schindler (Liam Neeson). Neeson was a badass Jedi Master in "Star Wars Episode I: A Phantom Menace," but before that he was a badass savior of the more than a thousand Polish Jews who worked in his factories during the Nazi reign in Europe. A mensch all the way.

"The Big Lebowski"
Two words: Walter Sobchak. John Goodman's quick-to-anger Jewish bowler is, if anything, an anti-stereotype. To look at the guy, it's easy to think "there's no way this guy is Jewish." And hey, maybe he isn't. Walter spouts a lot of nonsense; he claims he converted, but do we really know? Still, his ravings about not bowling because he's "shomer shabbos" is the stuff of comedy legend. Your grandparents might fill the air with schrais of "oy vey iz mir!," but your parents, aunts, uncles, cousins and siblings will be laughing hysterically in a corner along with you.

"School Ties"
"Fiddler" will make your Jewish parents happy, but bringing "School Ties" along to a family holiday gathering is nothing short of a mitvah. Brendan Fraser may be a Gentile in real life, but he's somehow believable in the role of a closeted Jew at a Protestant prep school, and the character he plays shows a lot of chutzpah for enrolling. Things go well for him too, until his schmuck of a classmate Charles Dillon (Matt Damon) discovers the truth and mishegoss ensues.

"Blazing Saddles"
Kind of obvious I know, but Mel Brooks' "Blazing Saddles" is a surefire crowd-pleaser. Scheming State Attorney General Hedley Lamarr hatches a farkakte plot to place a black sheriff (Cleavon Little) in an all-white frontier town. His hope is that the residents' intolerance will lead them to lynch the new sheriff, thus allowing him to empty out the town, thus clearing the way for a set of railroad tracks. It sounds serious, but it isn't. Prepare to laugh your tuchus off.

Of course, with so much material flying by, it's very easy to miss things.

On Sunday night at the Video Music Awards, nearly three months after Michael Jackson passed away, MTV will unveil the first ever trailer from "This Is It," the behind-the-scenes look at the King of Pop's final days as he prepared for a series of comeback concerts in London.

The footage is truly amazing, filled with the fallen icon's classic tunes and eye-opening insight into his creative process. It's such remarkable stuff that we wanted to give you a sneak peek a day before the main event, which is why we've posted some snippets of the footage online.

In the teaser clip, you get an advance look at Jackson and his backup dancers in full "Thriller" costume, practicing a dance that will be familiar to any fan of the timeless music video. You'll see him busting familiar moves and generally bringing an all-business intensity to his performances. And then there are the costumes: Jackson in sunglasses and a bright-blue dress shirt, Jackson wearing sparkly gold pants and a silver jacket as he rocks out alongside a guitarist, Jackson in an all-white suit, Jackson in a blood-red shirt when he slides across the stage on his knees.

"This Is It" won't come out in theaters until October 28, but hit play on this video to check out the King of Pop in action. And be sure to tune in on Sunday at 9 p.m. ET to watch the full trailer.

I'm not really sure that The Beatles were ever "bigger than Jesus," but they were still kind of a big deal. They made music that will be remembered through the ages and they were the focal point of what we nowadays think of offhandedly as a "pop culture phenomenon," one of the earliest really. Before "Twilight," before Britney Spears, before Michael Jackson... there was Beatlemania.

That said, the Fab Four weren't just musicians. That's what they were known for, sure, but the sort of fame they achieved has a tendency to open doors to other opportunities. Through the years, the four Beatles have all worked in Hollywood to varying degrees. And so, in honor of today's highly anticipated release of "The Beatles: Rock Band" -- not to mention the re-release of their entire catalog, newly remastered -- I give you these four fab screen performances from the Fab Four.

Paul McCartney
This one is probably my favorite. Paul McCartney and his wife Linda appeared in an episode of "The Simpsons" as themselves. In "Lisa the Vegetarian," little Lisa Simpson ruins her father's barbecue as she comes to realize that she can no longer eat meat. Frustrated that no one will adopt her beliefs, Lisa runs to the local Kwik-E-Mart, where she resignedly eats a hot dog. It's only afterwards that Apu informs her it is actually a tofu dog. He then takes her up to the roof of the Kwik-E-Mart, where he keeps a private garden. That's where we meet the McCartneys, who are big fans of Apu's "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Man." It's worth noting that Ringo and George also had "Simpsons" cameos in the past, but Paul's is the best of them.

Ringo Starr
Another TV appearance. Ringo played the Mock Turtle in a 1985 made-for-TV adaptation of "Alice in Wonderland." Not only does he have a fantastically punny line (several of them, really) -- "We called him a tortoise because he taught us" -- he's also got a song and dance number! And a ridiculous costume that Alice plays like a xylophone. Plus, Ringo's scene also features the legendary Sid Caesar.

George Harrison
This is an easy pick, despite the fact that Harrison's appearance in the movie is relegated to an uncredited cameo. Back in the mid-'70s, members of the UK comedy troupe Monty Python were preparing to release "Monty Python's Life of Brian," a send-up of the birth of Jesus Christ, when their chief backer pulled out at the last minute in fear of the subject matter. That's where George Harrison stepped in, with a £3 million investment that Python Eric Idle later described as "the world's most expensive cinema ticket." And so the movie was made, with Harrison showing up as Mr. Papadopoulos.

John Lennon
The first Beatle to leave this world is also the one with the meatiest acting role to date. John Lennon was a star in director Richard Lester's ("Superman III") wartime black comedy, "How I Won the War," based on the novel by Patrick Ryan. Lennon plays Musketeer Gripweed, one of a squad of soldiers who are cut down one by one as the story progresses. I've never actually seen this flick, but it sounds fascinating. Lester rolls out a variety of film styles in telling the story, giving everything a very art-house sort of vibe.

Do I need to give you all background on who the Volturi are? I was just reading through Alec's info on the Internet and then I realized, most of you could probably educate me better than any website. The reason I'm here is to bring you MTV's exclusive reveal of Alec Volturi (Cameron Bright), member of the vampire royal family and twin brother of Jane. Here's what "New Moon" director Chris Weitz has to say on the Volturi:

"No matter how strange one of the characters is in a work of fantasy, I think you have to approach them as people and then so you start to think, 'They've been around for 2,000 years. How would they interact with one another?' The conclusion was that after 2,000 years you'd probably be more than mildly insane. No matter how cultured or gracious you appear on the surface. And I think that's what Michael Sheen managed to portray as Aro, the head of the Volturi -- on the surface he's terribly gracious, warm, a wonderful host and at the same time he's lethal and frightening. It's also what Dakota Fanning conveys as Jane. She's innocent looking in appearance but she's absolutely deadly. The first thing I wanted to do was put them in a setting that wasn't Dracula's castle. There have been so many vampire movies and werewolf movies and horror movies where everything has been dark and dreary. Instead, their headquarters is surprisingly light and crisp. And the characters that they play have a kind of a tactile reality to them in spite of how bizarre their situation is really. The whole point is not to leave Forks, Washington where everything has really been quite realistic and then suddenly go to a location that completely throws you out of the movie. And the set although it's huge and grand and magnificent actually feels like a real place."

ALEC
Full Name: Alec
Status: Vampire
Group: Volturi Coven
Date of Birth: Unknown
Date of Transformation: Unknown but at a young age Special Abilities: Unknown

"They send you out for one and you bring back two and a half. Such a clever girl."

CHARACTER DESCRIPTION:
Alec is a high ranking member of the Volturi Guard. The Volturi were waiting to change Alec and his twin sister Jane until they were older, but humans tried to burn them at the stake, so the Volturi were forced to "change" them while they were young. Since acquiring Alec and Jane, the Volturi have seldom needed to fight - their victims are simply slaughtered.

VOLTURI
1) The Volturi include: Aro, Caius, and Marcus as the leaders, and then Jane, Alec, Demetri, Felix, Heidi, and several other unnamed members of the guard.
2) The Volturi are similar to a ruling body, and protect the secret of vampires by wiping out any "problems" as vampire law defines.
3) The Volturi live in an ancient Tuscan city called "Volterra".
4) Aro and Jane's powers do not work on Bella.

Sam Worthington is a peculiar Hollywood story. The Australia-born actor is already a common name in geek circles thanks to his work on "Terminator Salvation" and "Avatar," but one of those films was critically panned and the other one hasn't even been released yet.

Still, there's something undeniably refreshing about a guy who can identify a rotten egg even if it came from his own barn, so to speak. Sci Fi Wire caught up with Worthington during a group interview, in which the actor spoke about "Terminator"'s shortcomings in pretty specific terms. Aside from admitting to the film's complete lack of humor, Worthington pointed out some continuity gaffs that one wouldn't expect to hear from the movie's leading man.

"I can nitpick with the best of them, man, and kind of go down the list of things I saw on IMDB where they found holes in it, and go, 'You are f--king right,'" he told reporters. "If there was a big 10-ton robot coming outside that gas station, surely we would f--king hear it. And I missed that. So I'm going to be a bit better when I'm looking through my f--king scripts. So it raises my game a bit, because now I feel like an idiot for not saying it to McG, you know?"

Worthington's comments reflect some earlier statements he made to MTV News when asked if he'd ever consider a superhero role, like his rumored attachment to "Green Lantern."

"I don't know about that," the actor insisted. "I couldn't really see myself in green spandex, mate."

Sure, the actor is untested, even if his "Terminator Salvation" performance was widely considered one of the film's few highlights. Sure, "Avatar" and Worthington both have a lot of hype to live up to, particularly after the recent trailer didn't exactly win everyone over. Sure, Worthington's big role following "Avatar" is "Clash of the Titans," yet another dreaded Hollywood remake.

But don't tell me the man isn't honest.

Worthington is forthcoming. He tells it like it is. If he ever does land a superhero gig, he'll probably be the first one to say that he feels silly running around in a cape. If he does make another "Terminator" film, he's likely to speak out against any inconsistencies he sees.

Whether or not he's starred in a legitimately good film yet remains to be seen, and frankly, I think it's almost irrelevant. In Hollywood, Worthington's a rare case in that he keeps it honest -- sometimes at the expense of the political game, as seen with his latest "Terminator" jabs.

But it's like mama always said: "Honesty is the best policy." For Worthington, that could be worth more than an Oscar-winning performance.

What do you think of Worthington's comments on "Terminator Salvation's" mistakes? Do you respect his honesty or are you unimpressed with his willingness to speak out against his own work? Give us your opinion in the comments section!
