The story is described by Variety as a “teen comedy/adventure set in a high school.” Expect both film and book to draw heavily from classic Hollywood sci-fi; the idea behind “Go Mutants!” is that “all the tropes from classic 1950s alien invasion movies came true.” Things are taken a step further than that even: years after the initial invasions, human and alien societies have commingled to the point that their children go to school together.

Universal snatched up the rights to “Go Mutants!” with Brian Grazer of Imagine Entertainment set to produce. The book, which Doyle will finish this summer as he starts work on the script, is planned for a summer 2010 publish. Presumably the film’s release will not follow far behind.

You may not be immediately familiar with the name, but Doyle has a rather interesting background. He wrote the scripts for “Looney Tunes: Back in Action” and “Duplex,” and an adaptation of his 2007 debut novel “I Love You, Beth Cooper,” starring Hayden Panettiere and Paul Rust, is set for a July 10 release. Doyle also has a fair bit of experience in the TV world, having written multiple episodes of both “The Simpsons” and MTV’s classic “Beavis & Butthead.”
