<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><img src="http://www.mtv.com/shared/promoimages/movies/t/toro_guillermo_del/rough_cut_60509/seg_7/281x211.jpg" class="thumbnailmain">-- Let the speculation begin. "Howling Mad" Murdock actor Dwight Schultz will be showing up for a cameo in Joe Carnahan's "The A-Team," according to a fansite. Hopefully, this means we'll be seeing other cameos from the rest of the team. Who <em>doesn't</em> want to see Mr. T give this young guns A-Team a vote of confidence with a tiny cameo role. Hell, he can leave his gold chains at home if it makes him happy. Schultz is great, but the fans want what they want: bring back T. (<a href="http://www.dwightschultzfansite.nl/" >The Official Dwight Schultz Fansite</a>, via <a href="http://www.cinematical.com/2009/11/09/original-a-team-making-cameos-in-new-movie/" >Cinematical</a>)</p>
<p>-- "Mad Men" producer Matthew Weiner is turning his attention to film now that the latest season is finished. He's now getting set to helm "You Are Here," a romantic comedy that he wrote. Independent financing is already in place and the cast will include the likes of Jennifer Aniston and "The Hangover" stars Bradley Cooper and Zach Galifianakis. No word on a synopsis, but he'd better get cracking or he's going to leave a lot of "Mad Men" fans very disappointed. (<a href="http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118011083.html?categoryid=13&#038;cs=1" ><em>Variety</em></a>)</p>
<p>-- Winona Ryder is in talks to join Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis in "Black Swan," the next effort from Darren Aronofsky. The synopsis makes it sound like a ballet-infused "Fight Club." Portman plays a dancer whose top rival (Kunis) may in fact be a figment of her imagination. Ryder would pirouette into the role of another dancer. (<a href="http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118011077.html?categoryid=13&#038;cs=1&#038;ref=vertfilm" ><em>Variety</em></a>)</p>
<p>-- We knew Peter Berg was directing a movie adaptation of the board game "Battleship." And now we know who the villains will be. Aliens! (<a href="http://www.latinoreview.com/news/exclusive-guess-who-is-trying-to-sink-your-battleship-8481" >Latino Review</a>)</p>
<p>-- Strange, big news coming out of "The Wolf Man" camp. The Benicio Del Toro-starring creature feature remake was once set to feature the talents of composer Danny Elfman. This is no longer the case. The man behind such memorable themes as "The Simpsons" and "The Nightmare Before Christmas" is now off the picture -- hitting theaters on February 12 -- due to a "scheduling conflict." Taking his place is Paul Haslinger, who most famously did the score for "Underworld" and the recent "Death Race" remake. (<a href="http://www.cinemusic.net/2009/11/06/danny-elfman-no-longer-howling-the-wolf-man-soundtrack/" >Cinemusic</a>, via <a href="http://www.dreadcentral.com/news/34478/elfmans-wolfman-score-falls-deaf-ears-new-composer-board" >Dread Central</a>)</p>
<p>-- Guillermo del Toro revealed that he will appear in a cameo in "The Hobbit," which he is directing. That is all. (<a href="http://www.theonering.net/torwp/2009/11/09/34235-guillermo-del-toro-confirms-hobbit-cameo/" >TheOneRing.net</a>)</p>

She'll play Carissa Sosa, a Department of Defense flunkie who has a romantic history with A-Team honcho Faceman (<a href="http://moviesblog.mtv.com/tag/bradley-cooper">Bradley Cooper</a>). Presuming the flick follows the action genre mold, Sosa will likely spend much of the movie pursuing Faceman and his pals until circumstances force them all to work together against a greater threat. Or something like that. Remember: this is pure speculation.</p>
<p>If facts are what you're looking for, there are some more to share on "The A-Team." Earlier this week, "Entertainment Tonight" <a href="http://www.etonline.com/news/2009/10/79995/" >reported from the set of the movie</a> in a short video clip featuring interviews with Cooper, Biel and B.A. Baracus actor and UFC champ <a href="http://moviesblog.mtv.com/tag/quinton-rampage-jackson">Quinton "Rampage" Jackson</a>. You also get a brief, up-close glimpse of "<a href="http://moviesblog.mtv.com/tag/district-9">District 9</a>" star <a href="http://moviesblog.mtv.com/tag/sharlto-copley">Sharlto Copley</a> in his full "Howling Mad" Murdock get-up, but <a href="http://moviesblog.mtv.com/tag/liam-neeson">Liam Neeson</a>'s Hannibal is notably absent. Check out the video-y goodness after the jump.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><img src="http://www.mtv.com/shared/promoimages/movies/i/inception/freeze_frame/281x211.jpg" class="thumbnailmain">--This news just arrived in my mailbox, so consider it hot off the presses. Overture Films has issued a casting announcement for Matt Reeves' "Let Me In," a remake of the Swedish vampire flick "Let the Right One In." Joining the cast are Kodi Smit-McPhee ("The Road"), Chloe Moretz ("500 Days of Summer") and Richard Jenkins ("The Visitor").</p>
<p>--As if the badass trailer for Chris Nolan's "Inception" wasn't enough to get you excited, there's more news on the hush-hush project today. IMAX Corporation announced that the sci-fi flick will hit IMAX theaters and regular theaters simultaneously on July 16, 2010. And yes, that is too long to wait for something that looks so freaking cool. (<a href="http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=59651" >ComingSoon</a>)</p>
<p>--An image of director Joe Carnahan's fully assembled "A-Team" hit the Internet today. Not only does the photo give a first glimpse of the foursome, it also proves beyond any doubt that our new A-Team consists of Quinton "Rampage" Jackson (UFC fighter), Sharlto Copley ("District 9"), Bradley Cooper ("The Hangover") and Liam Neeson ("Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace"). (<a href="http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=59642" >ComingSoon</a>)</p>
<p>--"X-Men Origins: Wolverine" star Hugh Jackman is in talks to star in the Shawn Levy-directed robot boxing flick "Real Steel." I couldn't make this stuff up if I tried. (<a href="http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118009393.html?categoryid=13&#038;cs=1" ><em>Variety</em></a>)</p>
<p>--Jamie Foxx is set to join Robert Downey Jr. and Zach Gelifanakis in the Todd Phillips-directed comedy "Due Date." Foxx will play an old friend of Downey's character, and a former lover of Downey's wife (Michelle Monaghan), whom he secretly keeps in touch with. (<a href="http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/film/news/e3ie41d1967dbc1d09642323fa8c0d7ee02" ><em>The Hollywood Reporter</em></a>)</p>
<p>--There's a first look at Steve Carell and Tina Fey in "Date Night." Both of them are looking pretty roughed up. That's a duo I'll pay money to laugh at. (<a href="http://www.usatoday.com/life/movies/news/2009-09-30-date-night-first-look_N.htm" ><em>USA Today</em></a>)</p>

Which isn't to say movie-goers don't have options. Even putting aside summer leftovers like "<a href="http://moviesblog.mtv.com/tag/inglourious-basterds">Inglourious Basterds</a>," "<a href="http://moviesblog.mtv.com/tag/district-9">District 9</a>" and the past weekend's "<a href="http://moviesblog.mtv.com/tag/halloween-ii">Halloween II</a>"/"<a href="http://moviesblog.mtv.com/tag/the-final-destination">The Final Destination</a>" two-fer, the weekend brings several new offerings which service a wide cross-section of viewing tastes.</p>
<p>For the hopeless romantics and traditional date night-ers among us, there's "<a href="http://moviesblog.mtv.com/tag/all-about-steve">All About Steve</a>," starring summer favorites <a href="http://moviesblog.mtv.com/tag/sandra-bullock">Sandra Bullock</a> ("<a href="http://moviesblog.mtv.com/tag/the-proposal">The Proposal</a>") and <a href="http://moviesblog.mtv.com/tag/bradley-cooper">Bradley Cooper</a> ("<a href="http://moviesblog.mtv.com/tag/the-hangover">The Hangover</a>"). When Mary Horowitz (Bullock) falls for her blind date, a news cameraman (Cooper), she sets off on a trip to follow him. Too bad he thinks she's a nutball.</p>
<p>Next is "<a href="http://moviesblog.mtv.com/tag/extract">Extract</a>," one-half of my planned weekend double-feature. "Office Space" director <a href="http://moviesblog.mtv.com/tag/mike-judge">Mike Judge</a> is back with a reversal on his 1999 classic: here we see the bossman (<a href="http://moviesblog.mtv.com/tag/jason-bateman">Jason Bateman</a>) constantly being undermined by his colorful assortment of employees. I've rarely laughed harder than I did at the <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nfCYzJAgwrw" >printer beatdown</a> in "Space," but if anyone's up to the challenge of one-upping that, it's Judge.</p>
<p>The other half of my weekend double-feature is "<a href="http://moviesblog.mtv.com/tag/gamer">Gamer</a>," which I pretty much have to see on principle. <a href="http://moviesblog.mtv.com/tag/gerard-butler">Gerard Butler</a> stars as an in-game avatar named Kable. See, "Gamer"'s future-world posits that video games have progressed to the point that players can essentially plug in and take control of other humans. Kinda like "The Running Man," except replace Richard Dawson with "Six Feet Under"'s Michael C. Hall. Must. See.</p>
<p>Rounding out the week's quartet of new wide releases is "<a href="http://moviesblog.mtv.com/tag/carriers">Carriers</a>," a horror flick which hits the ground at full speed with a rather cool premise: four friends set out to cross the southwestern U.S., trying to outrun a virus that threatens to wipe out humanity. As the situation becomes more and more desperate, cracks begin to form between the tight band of survivors, letting loose some dark thoughts.</p>
<p>Finally, those who call "select cities" their home can enjoy the limited release of "<a href="http://moviesblog.mtv.com/tag/amreeka">Amreeka</a>." Writer/director Cherien Dabis tells the story of a divorced Palestinian woman (Nisreen Faour) and her teenage son (Melkar Muallem), who leave their home in the West Bank for a happier life in America. Illinois to be precise.</p>
<p>And those are your choices. What say you, faithful readers? How will you be spending your Labor Day weekend?</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><img src="http://www.mtv.com/shared/promoimages/movies/h/hangover/loder/140x105.jpg" alt="The Hangover" class="thumbnailmain"><em>by Gabriel Lipson</em></p>
<p>After inflicting a hurricane of damage throughout Las Vegas, &#8220;<a href="http://moviesblog.mtv.com/tag/the-hangover">The Hangover</a>&#8220;&#8217;s inebriated foursome somehow fled the city without any major legal repercussions. Sure they&#8217;d owe reparations to Caesar&#8217;s Palace, but cleverly placed plot devices and bureaucratic loopholes allowed the men to skirt the law. </p>
<p>Imagine now for just a moment that the Nevada legal system worked as it should have. If the law had won, how much would Phil (<a href="http://moviesblog.mtv.com/tag/bradley-cooper">Bradley Cooper</a>), Stu (<a href="<a href="http://moviesblog.mtv.com/tag/ed-helms">Ed Helms</a>), Alan (<a href="http://moviesblog.mtv.com/tag/zach-galifianakis">Zach Galifianakis</a>) and Doug (<a href="http://moviesblog.mtv.com/tag/justin-bartha">Justin Bartha</a>) have lost?</p>
<p>Despite the sheer quantity of petty crimes, felonies and personal mistakes committed in &#8220;The Hangover,&#8221; each incident is fairly common to any large, metropolitan city. According to Nevada State Trooper Public Information Officer Chuck Allen, Las Vegas patrolmen would have been especially prepared. </p>
<p>Allen explained that the biggest barrier for the bunch would have been the glut of closed circuit recording equipment peppered throughout the city and built into every squad car. &#8220;From the moment the men entered the stolen Ford Crown Victoria, an L-3 Cam System in the dashboard would have captured more than just their identities,&#8221; Allen explained. &#8220;Roadside damage to barriers, street fixtures and any other equipment owned and maintained by the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT).&#8221; All of it, on record.</p>
<p>&#8220;Normally NDOT restitution costs would be added to an insurance claim,&#8221; Allen said, &#8220;but taking a joyride in a cop car is a felony, so they would probably be added to the cost of bail or bond.&#8221; Not only would each man have to serve a minimum of one year in prison, but even minor frame damage to the vehicle would render the car &#8220;totaled.&#8221; </p>
<p>Squad cars have to be in tip-top shape to survive the daily grind of high-speed pursuits. The State of Nevada would subsequently charge the men &#8220;between $15,000 and $17,000 for a brand new vehicle, but also a good five grand for new interior equipment, from L-3 and P-19 cams to radar and a new laptop computer.&#8221; </p>
<p>Though Trooper Allen obviously couldn&#8217;t provide an exact dollar amount that would leave the bachelor partying foursome square with the State of Nevada, he did remind me that the sum would reach multiple tens of thousands of dollars for each of the men, legal fees notwithstanding. And let&#8217;s not forget, at least Phil would have been charged with a DUI as well.</p>
<p>One can only assume that <a href="http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2009/06/12/hangover-sequel-is-a-go-says-todd-phillips-eyeing-spring-10-start-date/">Todd Phillips&#8217; proposed sequel</a> will place the four headliners in some entirely new comedic conundrum without mention of the legal proceedings and second mortgages that must have followed their initial escapade. In other words, we&#8217;ll just have to accept that $80,000 in casino chips covered the costs of hotel refurnishing, cosmetic dentistry, automotive restoration, and restitution to the state. After all, it wouldn&#8217;t be fair to saddle the leading men with insurmountable debt and incarceration after being tasered by schoolchildren.</p>
