Over the years, we’ve seen our share of good American remakes of foreign films (“The Ring,” “Insomnia”) as well as some not-so-good ones (“The Eye,” “Dark Water,” “The Lake House”) that left a bad taste in our mouths. Recently, Cam Gigandet wrapped up his work on another high-profile translation to our shores, this time of “The Experiment,” and he promised us it will fall into that earlier category.

“I just finished a movie in Iowa called ‘The Experiment’ with Adrien Brody and Forest Whitaker,” the “Twilight” star said of the remake, which also stars Maggie Grace and Clifton Collins Jr. “We shot that in Iowa, in Des Moines, and that was a blast.”

Although it’s based on the acclaimed 2001 mind-bending German movie “Das Experiment,” the film is coming home in a morbid way. “Experiment” dramatizes the tale of a 1971 series of tests conducted on 24 undergraduates in the basement of a building at Stanford University, as they played the roles of guards and prisoners in a mock prison. Six days after the experiment began, conditions had deteriorated to the point of sadistic and humiliating treatment of the “prisoners,” leading to riots and severe emotional disturbances.

“It’s a retelling of the Stanford prison experiment that happened in the '70s,” explained Gigandet, who plays one of the test subjects. “It’s a great little indie, and it was really fun.”

“It was a tough shoot,” he revealed. “I mean, we were in the middle of nowhere in a jail cell. But, it should be good.”

And for fans of the German film, Gigandet was quick to insist that his “Experiment” (written and directed by “Prison Break” mastermind Paul Scheuring) will walk a fine line between honoring the original and taking it to the next level of madness.

“It’s similar; it’s a much more real version,” insisted Gigandet. “It’s much dirtier. It’s grittier. Yeah, it’s not as Hollywood-ed up. It’s very dark and dirty.”

Are you excited for a remake of “Das Experiment,” or more nervous?

If Danny Trejo landing a role in "Predators" was the greatest movie news of last week, then here comes the weirdest movie news you're likely to hear this entire month -- words I'm sure to be eating within a few days -- and once again, it's all about "Predators."

Trejo is indeed on board for "Predators," and the rest of the cast is filling out to include the likes of Walt Goggins, who played the loathsome Shane Vendrell on "The Shield," as well as Alice Braga of "I Am Legend." But the real story comes in the form of the film's purported leading actors: none other than scrawny men Adrien Brody and Topher Grace.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Brody's character "is a man who ends up inheriting the mantle of leader" amongst the film's cast, as each player finds themselves the unwitting prey of a horde or Predators. Brody is also known as "a hunter of men." Grace, meanwhile, plays "an accountant-type whose unassuming facade masks a dangerous serial killer."

Brody reportedly lobbied hard for his role, working to convince producer Robert Rodriguez and director Nimrod Antal of his worthiness for going against the heavily-armed, multi-jawed creatures. Mission accomplished, apparently.

Now, I'm not going to sit here and tell you that Brody and Grace are untalented actors. Quite the opposite; I think they're both great -- Brody didn't win that Academy Award for nothing, and Grace has proven himself capable of roles beyond his classic Eric Foreman type.

But are they worthy of fighting the Predators? Can they really take the reins of a franchise that's previously seen bigger guys like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny Glover going toe-to-toe with the calculated, cold-blooded alien killers? That, I'm not so sure of.

One thing I do know is that everything else about "Predators" -- from the positive script reviews to the inspired hiring of Antal as director to the inclusion of Trejo and more -- has me very excited. The latest casting of Brody and Grace is definitely an unexpected development, but I'm doing my best to keep an open mind. Given everything else we know, a full-scale panic isn't necessary just yet.

What do you think of the "Predators" cast? Totally awesome, totally awful or just somewhere in the realm of bizarre? Sound off in the comments section or on Twitter!

He has officially been beaten by “Twilight” veteran Cam Gigandet, who seems to snag a new project every single day. The latest finds him in Oscar-winning company, as Variety reports that Gigandet will join Adrien Brody, Elijah Wood and Forest Whitaker in “The Experiment.”

“The Experiment” will be directed by Paul Scheuring (”Prison Break”) from his own screenplay. It’s a remake of the 2001 German film “Das Experiment,” which centers on a group of ordinary men recruited to take part in a psychological research study. They’re divided up and put into prison. Some land jobs as guards, others are locked up as prisoners, all with the intent of studying how they react to their assigned roles, and to positions of power and control.

The experiment goes sour as the guards go drunk with power, and develop authoritarian tendencies, going to great lengths to hide their abusive actions from the researchers in order to keep their power trip going. The prisoners also band together in order to resist… and if you suspect things get really ugly, you’d be right.

Brody will play the leader of the rebellious prisoners while Whitaker has been cast as one of the abusive and corrupted guards. It’s not specified whether Gigandet or Wood will be prisoners or guards, but as the film begins shooting in Iowa next month, you’ll soon find out. Who wants to bet they’ll play up Gigandet’s villainous talents, and cast him as one of the sadistic guards?

Readers and Twilighters, will you subject yourself to “The Experiment”? Do you expect Gigandet to sport a uniform, or be stuck behind bars?
