Wes Anderson And The Arquettes Return To ‘Scream’ In Today’s Dailies — 7/16/09

Robert RodriguezApologies for today's late-breaking Dailies; a battery of meetings threw off my publishing schedule. Then there was yesterday's absence, when The Dailies fell victim of a top secret screening. But I'm back now, baby. And there's lots of news in the movies world, so let's get right down to it.

-- This is rumor territory, so take it for what it's worth. Robert Rodriguez's "Grindhouse" spin-off, "Machete," got a pretty exciting casting update. Danny Trejo, Michelle Rodriguez, Jonah Hill and Robert freaking De Niro may or may not be joining the cast. The shoot is supposed to get underway in a couple weeks, so we'll all know soon enough. (Bloody Disgusting)

-- Max Brooks' excellent book "World War Z," an fictional oral history of a modern-day zombie uprising, has been an on-again/off-again project for quite some time now. The word is that J. Michael Straczynski, who wrote the original script, has been replaced by "The Kingdom" writer Matthew Michael Carnahan. (Fangoria)

-- You won't be able to read the text (unless you speak French I suppose), but the first two images from "The Fantastic Mr. Fox," Wes Anderson's next project, have hit the Internets. As a longtime fan of Anderson's work I... well, I don't know what to think. "The Royal Tenenbaums" remains one of my all-time favorites though, so I'm willing to give the guy the benefit of the doubt on just about anything. (filmsactu)

-- Pierre Morel, director of that wacky Liam Neeson action/thriller "Taken," has linked up with Universal for a project called "Pursuit." The film follows the real-life story of Jason Howe, a photojournalist who, while on assignment in Columbia, meets and falls in love with a woman who turns out to be an assassin. How... romantic? (Variety)

-- It was already kind of official, but now we know for sure: husband-and-wife duo Courteney Cox and David Arquette are now confirmed to be participating in Kevin Williamson's upcoming "Scream 4." Considering that the couple met and fell in love on the set of "Scream," I'd say they kind of owe it to the series creator. (E! Online)
